HSBC and Santander Gain Market Share in Mortgage Securities

HSBC Holdings Plc and Banco Santander SA are among those who gained market share in the mortgage market securities at the time the largest housing banks in the UK recorded the largest decline in lending since 1987. HSBC and Santander, both have reported that last year has seen an increase in housing loan disbursement, while borrowing as a whole declined. The Abbey National Section of Santander-reported increase in market share by 20.5% in the third quarter of 2009 from 12.5% last year. Expansion of market share announced that HSBC, by 9.9% in the third quarter from 4.5% in the first half of 2008. “The Housing Bank may find it difficult to regain market share lost in recent months,” said Chris Amnet, professor at King’s College London.
According to current figures of the Union Mortgage Banks in Britain, banks reported that the obligations were repaid to the mortgage loans is not exceeded 7.4 billion pounds in 2009, marking the biggest decline since begun to run their respective sizes.
